Luigi, also known as Gigio, began his racing career on a Pocket Bike in 2004. He was one of the chosen riders to take part to the Aprilia JuniorGP Racing Dream Trophy where he showed a good racing attitude. Gigio took part to the Italian Championship (CIV) on an Ellegi Team bike and finished at the 7th place overall, and spent a second season in the same championship with the Aprilia JuniorGP Team, where he classified 3rd.
2010 was not his best year due to an accident occured during the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello while racing as a wild card. A long rehabilitation kept him apart from many races, though classifying himself on the 11th place.
Luigi took part to the 2011 MotoGP World Championship in 125 class with Team Italia and was among the 15 first classified. Best seasonal result was a 9th place in Valencia, 20th on the final standing counting 23 points.
